Thermal Heating & Cooling Australia

Touie Smith

Thermal Heating and Cooling Australia, otherwise known as Touie Smith Sales and Service, is a third-generation heating and cooling business located in Yass. Touie Smith learned the air conditioning trade from his father, before teaching his son, Touie Smith Junior.

The business has operated in Yass since its inception, offering a complete range of heating and cooling services, including under-floor heating, air conditioners, radiators, hot water systems, and more. It’s also known for its service and maintenance of geothermal (renewable energy) heating and cooling systems. Touie Smith Junior says that the addition of renewables has really driven business growth in recent years, particularly because of their proximity to Canberra where green initiatives are very popular.

Poachers Pantry

Susan Bruce

Established in 1991, Poachers Pantry is a family business located between Canberra and Yass. It comprises The Smokehouse Restaurant, Wily Trout Vineyard, Farm Shop and Cellar Door, with the property’s expansive lawns and marquee available for weddings and events.

Poachers Pantry produces a wide range of award winning smoked goods, which are incorporated into the restaurant menu, sold in the Pantry, and distributed to delis and restaurants across the Canberra region. The Wiley Trout Vineyard, which was established in 1998, sits on the granite hills surrounding the property. Wiley Trout wines are also served and sold onsite, and distributed to local establishments and bottle shops.

Shaw Vineyard Estate

Graeme Shaw

After searching for a location that offered the perfect lifestyle and a great place to raise their kids, Graeme and Ann Shaw moved to Murrumbateman in 1985. In 1998, the Shaw family decided to purchase a 700 acre property.

A year later, they planted 85 acres of grape vines, and became a grape-grower for Australia’s then-largest wine company. In the years that followed, Shaw Vineyard Estate began producing its own range of premium cool climate wines, winning an array of national and international awards for excellence.

Robyn Rowe Chocolates

Robyn Rowe

Robyn Rowe has always had a flair for the creative and a passion for fine detail. Robyn’s chocolate-making business started as a home-based operation, but quickly developed into a growing business. By 2006, attendance at the Capital Region Farmers Market in Canberra was a weekly event and people began to appreciate the quality and freshness of the chocolates produced.

January 2012 saw the opening of the Robyn Rowe chocolate shop on the family property in the Yass Valley, halfway between Yass and Canberra.
