[A] is for… Alpaca Magic

Located in Sutton, you will find one of the first Llama Studs in NSW. Alpaca Magic began in 1997 with just a couple of alpacas. They now have approximately 200 alpacas and llamas, as well as donkeys and miniature Galloway cattle. Please note that they are open by appointment only.

[B] is for …. The Baker at Sutton

Also located in Sutton, the Baker at Sutton is a modern bakery that offers a wide range of mouth-watering treats. From fresh breads, pies, pastries, and sweets, you are bound to find something delicious to go with your coffee. With lots of room outside, you can choose to dine in or takeaway.

[C] is for… Careys Caves

Careys Caves is located in the beautiful Wee Jasper. It is the closest limestone cave system to Canberra and features naturally sculpted rock and a wealth of different cave formations. Tours are for ages 5 and over and access is located down a flight of 30 steps, with the floors being mostly flat through the cave chambers.

[D] is for… Dionysus Winery

Since opening the Cellar Door in 2003, Dionysus Winery has been known for their friendly and warm service. They produce high-quality cool climate wines from fruit grown in their very own vineyard. When visiting Dionysus Winery, you can taste a selection of their Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and more!

[E] is for… Eden Road Wines

Eden Road Wines award-winning wines are known throughout the Canberra Wine Region for their unique characteristics and complexity. They grow and produce their wines across different wine regions which aids in capturing the full body of the land. Book in for a tasting today and try their range of unique and delicious wines!

[F] is for… Four Winds Vineyard

Four Winds Vineyard started out from one couple’s dream to grow and sell grapes, and has since turned into an inter-generational family business. At Four Winds, they enjoy the simple things; making wine and wood-fired pizzas. Why not pull up a chair over-looking the vines, indulge in some wood-fired pizza and local wine, and take in the scenic vineyard?

[G] is for… Gundaroo Colonial Inn

What was previously known as Matt Crowes Wine Bar, the historic Gundaroo Colonial Inn has been in continuous operation since it was established in 1872 during the gold rush period.  The restaurant serves delicious food, and the bar provides a wide selection of beers and wines. They even have their own Heritage Hotel if you wish to stay the night!

[H] is for … Hamilton Hume’s Grave

Hamilton Hume is remembered throughout Australia as a native-born explorer who opened up much of the most valuable country in the southeast of Australia. When he was 42 years of age, he bought “Cooma” (now known as Cooma Cottage) on the outskirts of Yass. Hamilton Hume lived there for the remainder of his years. You can find Hamilton Hume’s Grave in the Church of England Section of the Yass Cemetery, located in Section H, Plot 373 A and B.

[I] is for… Information Centre

Located on the main street of Yass, right next door to the beautiful Coronation Park, you will find the Yass Valley Information Centre. The friendly staff are available seven days a week to guide you through the many sites and experiences that the Yass Valley has to offer. Inside, you will find a wide selection of beautiful, locally produced produce, merchandise, wines and gifts.

[J] is for … Johnny Gilberts Grave

Situated on the outskirts of Binalong, is the historic gravesite of the notorious bushranger, Johnny Gilbert. With 630 armed hold-ups, he was certainly a hardworking young man! The 13th of May 1865 was an unfortunate day for Johnny Gilbert who, at the ripe age of 23, was shot dead in a paddock on the banks of Balgalal Creek near Binalong.

[K] is for… Kaffeine 2582

Kaffeine 2582 is a trendy coffee house located on the main street of Yass. They offer locally roasted blends of coffee, freshly squeezed juices, homemade cakes and baked goods, as well as all day breakfast options for the late-risers! An assortment of home wares and boutique clothes are also available for purchase.

[L] is for… Lerida Estate

Lerida Estate provides a welcoming and memorable experience in their spectacular Glenn Murcutt designed winery. They pride themselves in producing outstanding wine using low yielding vines, with minimal intervention, which helps to maintain freshness and purity of fruit character. Although most proud of their Pinot Noir, they also have exceptional Pinot Gris, Viognier, Merlot, and more!

[M] is for… Merchant Campbell

At Merchant Campbell, they work hard to provide customers with a happy and rewarding shopping experience. They pride themselves in supporting and assisting artisans, small business owners and ethical and environmentally sustainable producers. They have a vast range of beautiful homewares, home furnishings and lifestyle products for purchase.

[N] is for … The Nest at Gundaroo

Claiming to be Canberra region’s best kept secret, The Nest at Gundaroo is a family-owned business providing luxury, boutique accommodation. Located in Gundaroo, it is snuggled back off the main street to offer privacy and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens. The Nest at Gundaroo opened in December 2015 and has since been providing the perfect accommodation for a quiet weekend away, celebrations and wedding parties.

[O] is for … Olleyville at Shaw Vineyard Estate

Olleyville is an award-winning restaurant, located at Shaw Vineyard Estate. The Head Chef, Anthony Davis, has created a menu that will offer something for everyone. Those looking for a light bite can enjoy antipasto boards and cheese plates featuring local farm produce, with small plates and large plates also available, as well as homemade desserts made by their in-house pastry chef. The beautiful location that is surrounded by vineyards also make it the perfect setting for functions, events and weddings.

[P] is for… Peter Minson Art Glass

Peter Minson considers himself lucky to be a third generation glass blower. Using scientific glassblowing techniques, he produces unique products such as glasses, teapots, and necklaces to be both admired and purchased. Peter’s studio is located in the small village of Binalong, where he continues his work and teaches glass to those who want to experience glassblowing. Private lessons and workshops can be arranged on request.

[Q] is for … Café on Queen

Café on Queen operates out of a 100-year-old building that was formally used as a general store until 1977, and then used as The Tea Rooms until approximately 1997. The café was established to service both the local district and travellers passing through. The menu has many delicious options including sandwiches, toasties, melts, all day specials and great coffee. Afterwards, take a walk around the garden on the banks of the Balgalal Creek.

[R] is for … Rollonin Café

Take a step back and unwind at the friendly family owned Rollonin Café located in the Historic village of Bowning. To give visitors the opportunity to travel back in time the ‘Slab Hut’ building was designed to replicate local buildings from the 1800’s. The interior walls are lined with newspapers dated back from the early 1900’s and there are beautiful gardens surrounding the café.

[S] is for … Surveyors Hill Vineyards

Surveyors Hill Vineyard is a family-owned business located in Wallaroo. The first vineyards were established from the mid 1980’s, making them some of the older vines in the Canberra Wine Region. There are panoramic views of Surveyors Hill from the cellar door and café, where you can enjoy tastings of their wines which include; Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre.

[T] is for … Tootsie Gallery Cafe

Tootsie Gallery Cafe is a creative and colourful space to visit where you can enjoy the café while being inspired by the outdoor mosaic gardens. Located in an old Art Deco garage, they provide exhibition spaces, restored workshop spaces and sculpture gardens for artists to present their work and their passions to the public. They serve light lunches, fresh salads, locally made cakes, coffee and more!

[U] is for … Under the Bridge

Under the Hume Bridge in Yass is a free graffiti art wall that is open to artists of all skill levels and experience. Get down and add your own splash of colour and creativity to the wall, or just admire the art!

[V] is for … The Vintner’s daughter

In 2014, husband and wife team, Stephanie Helm and Benjamin Osborne purchased a small winery and vineyard in Murrumbateman and started The Vintners Daughter. The property is not far from where Stephanie grew up learning to make wine from her winemaker, vintner and ‘local legend’ father, Ken Helm of Helm Wines. They pride themselves on quality over quantity so you won’t find their wines at supermarket bottle shops!

[W] is for … Wins Creek Meadery

At Win’s Creek Meadery, they keep their bees in native eucalypt forests and woodlands where they produce honey from species such as spotted gum, string bark and yellow box – which they then use to produce some of Australia finest handcrafted mead ! The restaurant menu items are sourced from local and regional producers. After you enjoy a meal, why not walk around the bee-spoke gift shop where they sell handmade ceramics, beeswax candles, gorgeous quilts, and of course honey!

[X] is for … X Marks the spot – Bushranger Murals

The Bushranger Murals located on the sidewall of The Old Produce Store, depict the events from a poem by Banjo Paterson, ‘How Gilbert Died’, of how Johnny Gilbert the bushranger died. Johnny Gilbert, a member of Ben Hall’s gang, was shot dead by police in 1865 during a shootout.

[Y] is for … Yazzbar

The Yazzbar is a cosy, country wine bar in the heart of Yass Valley which prides themselves in showcasing the region’s best wine, food and entertainment. They serve tapas style food from locally sourced produce, and often have live music performances performed by local talent. Grab your friends together and relax in the sunny courtyard or by the cosy fireplace. They even make their own wine!
