Bursting with wonderful experiences, Yass boasts a fabulous sense of community, spectacular natural scenery, and a laid-back country lifestyle.

The name Yass is believed to be derived from the Aboriginal word ‘Yharr’, meaning ‘running water’. Traditionally inhabited by the Aboriginal Ngunnawal and Wiradjuri tribes, the region features many areas of Aboriginal cultural significance, including Oak Hill, the Hollywood Mission and Hattons Corner.
In 1821, Hamilton Hume was the first non-indigenous person to see the Yass Plains. Today, Hume’s name is synonymous throughout Australia as one of our country’s most well-known colonial explorers.
Yass town centre is conveniently located just 45 minutes from Canberra, making it a quick and easy commute, day trip or short break destination. Situated just off the Hume Highway and only three hours from Sydney, Yass Valley is a popular stopover and meeting place for travellers alike.
Yass Valley’s highlights include food and wine experiences, exploring the rugged yet stunning outdoors and enchanting shops and boutiques.
