They say “you can’t spin (or felt) alpaca fibre”. Not only can it be done, but it is quite easy and the results are spectacular.
You’ve probably heard that just learning to treadle is a skill in itself and, for some people quite difficult – we have the answer to that – learn to spin on the Roberta Electronic Spinners. They are small, quiet and amazingly easy to use. What better way to learn the ancient art of spinning than in a rural setting surrounded by the delightful animals which have provided you with their fibre?
In this series of 3 workshops you will learn to spin from a raw fleece, from commercially carded (combed) fleece. You will learn to card, spin and ply, wash and skein your own alpaca and llama fibre to take home. You will be ready to begin your own spinning projects at home.
You will meet many alpacas and llamas, inspect the fleece of both on and off these animals; learn how to select fibre that is suitable for spinning, and more importantly – what fibre to reject and why.
A starter pack which will include a variety of fleece for spinning, tea and coffee, will be provided. Extra natural fibre and carded tops in natural and dyed colours will be available for purchase.
