GREAT WALKS AUSTRALIA – HUME AND HOVELL WALKING TRACK

After a few days on the track, Great Walks asks, is the Hume
and Hovell Australia’s most underrated multi-dayer? It’s true to say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and when it comes to what people are drawn to when walking in nature, the choice is endless.

The Hume and Hovell Track is an epic trail in the south east of NSW, that traverses rugged and beautiful countryside following a mix of public roads, fire trails, purpose built single track and over 100 footbridges. It follows as closely as possible the route taken by the famous overland explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell.

The track stretches 426km and passes through the towns of Yass, Wee Jasper and Albury and nearby the towns of Tumut, Talbingo and Tumbarumba offering a variety of topographies, vegetation types and land uses, as well as numerous points of historic interest. The track is well signposted and provides opportunities for numerous day walks, weekend walks or for the ‘long distance’ walker a 21 day walk.
